How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? season 2 plot and spoilers

At this moment, we do not know where the second season of How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? could take us because we don’t know how many volumes of the manga series the season could potentially adapt. Namely, due to a lack of information in general, we have absolutely no clue how far the second season might go when it premieres. What follows is an overview of the source material which is going to reveal what could be adapted in a potential second season.

Hibiki Sakura is a high school student who loves to eat but this habit makes her gain weight; watching her binge again, her best friend Ayaka Uehara asked her if she had put on weight recently. Once this caught her attention, Hibiki decided to go on a diet but couldn’t manage it on her own, so she reluctantly ended up going to the new gym that opened in her neighborhood, the “Silverman Gym”.

She discovers there Akemi Sōryūin, the president of the student office (B.D.E.) of her school, present for another reason… After meeting Naruzo Machio, one of the gym’s trainers, she falls in love with him and enrolls in that gym. Motivated, Hibiki vows to lose weight.

How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? season 2 cast

The main cast of How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? won’t be going through many changes, at least not as far as we know. Some new characters will be introduced, that is certain, but the main cast will remain – for the most part – unchanged until the very end (of the first series, at least). This is why we think that the main voice cast, since that is an unwritten rule in modern-day anime adaptations, will return for the second season, but also for all potential future seasons. Here is a list of cast members you can expect to see in the second season:

  • Hibiki Sakura
    Japanese voice: Fairouz Ai
The main character of the series. A sophomore at Kōyō Girls’ High School who loves to eat. She tried to lose weight on her own but as she couldn’t, she resigned herself to enrolling in a gym, the Silverman Gym. Unfortunately, due to her lack of regular exercise and her own eating habits, she tends to burn out easily and any progress she makes quickly falls by the wayside. Although she is easily shown at first as the most unfit of the characters to enroll in a gym, she has a hidden talent for combat sports, which she demonstrates by destroying one of the punching bags. at Ayaka’s family gym with amazing ease. Her general physical condition improves dramatically to the point where she can sprint at a speed comparable to Akemi’s.
  • Akemi Sōryūin
    Japanese voice: Sora Amamiya
The president of the B.D.E. Kōyō Girls’ High School. A beautiful and charismatic young girl from a wealthy family who is successful in all areas, whether in sports or in studies. She is a big body fetishist and joined the Silverman Gym mainly to fulfill those desires and often expresses her desire to see Hibiki and the others become macho. Unlike Hibiki, she is in better physical condition.
  • Ayaka Uehara
    Japanese voice: Shizuka Ishigami
Hibiki Sakura’s best friend and classmate. Ayaka is a movie buff who enjoys watching movies with Hibiki, mostly action movies starring Harnold Dogegenchonegger. She and her sister are the daughters of a famous professional boxer who founded his own gym called the Glory Gym. As her father taught them how to box from an early age, she is in excellent physical condition and is a competent boxer serving as a trainer for their gym. His training allows him to do shadow-boxing to perfection and even to perform the famous cladding exercise, the “Dragon Flag”, known for its extreme difficulty.
  • Gina Boyd
    Japanese voice: Nao Tōyama
A 17-year-old girl from Russia. At first she attended the sambo class in the Moscow branch of the Silverman Gim. She is also very good at arm wrestling. After losing to Hibiki at arm wrestling, she declares herself his rival and moves to Japan, in the process transferring to Hibiki’s school and staying at her house without his consent. Although she doesn’t do bodybuilding, she does several combat sports and manages to stay in shape that way. She’s also a bit of an otaku, trying to maintain a public image of typical Russian stereotypes.
  • Satomi Tachibana
    Japanese voice: Yui Horie
A 29-year-old world history teacher. She loves erotic cosplay and participates in many events by introducing herself as “Lico Yuria”; nevertheless she tries to hide it for fear of being socially destroyed. By joining the Silverman Gym, like Hibiki, she also falls under the spell of Machio.
  • Naruzō Machio
    Japanese voice: Kaito Ishikawa
The Silverman Gym trainer who regularly trains Hibiki and Akemi. Hibiki fell in love with him when she went to Sylverman Gym and this became the latter’s main motivation to join the gym. He is a dedicated, generous, and polite professional who always sincerely helps and supports Hibiki. Behind his handsome face of a young man in his twenties and his clothes, hides a body-builder’s body. Although Machio does not look any different from an ordinary young man with his clothes on, he has such a tall and well-defined physique that once he contracts his muscles, he reveals muscle mass so great that he literally rips his clothes, which contrasts with his baby face.
  • Harnnold Doggenzonegger
    Japanese voice: Tesshō Genda
An American actor playing in many action movies. The Japanese call him “Harnny”.
  • Rumika Aina
    Japanese voice: Haruka Tomatsu
Hibiki’s homeroom teacher. She was a former delinquent.
  • Yakusha Kure
    Japanese voice: Sayaka Ohara
A teacher and mother of two children. Like the other members of the Kure clan, she has her clan’s unusual eyes, black sclera, and white irises.
  • D. Rector
    Japanese voice: Hiroyuki Yoshino
    A director of Muji TV.
  • Jason Sensastham
    Japanese voice: Yūichi Nakamura
    An actor and Doggenzonegger’s secretary.
